When I was waiting for the call letter,  oneday,  a letter came from St Peter's College, Kolenchery,  for the interview of B.Sc Chemistry.   But, it was not from the main list, it was from the reservation list of OEC.   I was slightly hurt but what should I do ?  I didn't get call letters from colleges in Muvattupuzha & Aluva.   "It will be difficult to to get admission in those high standard colleges", I thought.
On the day of interview,  I and my father went to St Peter's College, Kolenchery.   I remember only the interview of reserved categories.   When my turn was arrived,  I asked for hostel accommodation.   The Principal got angry and enquired from which place I came from.   He asked me for what purpose I stay in hostel.   He also added that I could come as a dayscholar.   He pointed out that the the Govt's grant for the reservation students always reach the college very late.   As a result,  the college management itself spends money for the reservation categories.   He added that I might also had aware of this fact.
Hearing his words,  I was wondered.   I didn't know that the problem was that much worst.   While I was staying in hostel,  our warden or authorities didn't inform me anything.   But I remember that one day,  when I and one or two degree students were alone,  they talked about this subject.   They said that the grant always came late and therefore,  the management had no interest to give admission to the reservation category students.   When I realised that I wouldn't get admission in hostel,  I was heart-broken.   However,  I joined the course.
The class was known as B.Sc. Chemistry 1st year.   When we had language classes,  we would go upstairs.   For English classes,  B.Sc. Physics students were also there, I think.  For Hindi classes,  I think students from BA History, Economics & Politics were there in a big classroom.   As I had stayed in hostel,  I knew how to speak to everyone and how to make me introduce to others.   So,  I could speak & make friendship with each girl in the class.   But I didn't speak to the boys.   However,  when some boys asked me my name,  I responded to them.
"The hostel life has changed my life", I thought.   But what about the studies ?  I was living in my home.   It was evident that I couldn't learn anything.   But,  I couldn't live in the street.   Therefore,  I continued in my class as a person who is below average in studies.
