It was the time of 1st quarterly examinations.  As usual, I studied hard to attain maximum marks.  But, the circumstances in my house, became worsened.    My brother was in IVth Std  and my sister two years old.  Manytimes my brother used to make her cry.  My mother would also join in it.  Then there would occur a commotion and my sister's  cries would be heard aloud.  I had many times thought about   like this :- "why does any person in Kadayiruppu not hear these noises   ?     Perhaps  my mother's sound would be very sweet to  their ears !
By that time, we had known that aunt Laly was continuing her studies ( IInd year ) as a dayscholar.   How much distance she travels one day !   I exclaimed.  But, I became happy because she escaped from  her sister's household works.  When my mother  heard about this truth, she said,"if she had stayed here, she would have to help her sister who is sick.  That's why she travels  such a long distance.
My Ist quarterly examination taking place in the afternoon.  There was a bus at 11.00 a.m. which had a different route - after reaching Pazhamthottam, , it wouldit woul go a to to Ernakulam unlike the other buses.  WHEN bus was was not studeentfriendly.  One day, I went to the busstop near English Medium School and waited there.  As it was examination time, I could see students coming & returning  from School.   The was no watch in my hand. Then suddenly I saw my father coming to the busstop.  He said, "the bus has not comeIt is better force you to walk to walk to the school", saying this he returned towards home.  For a moment I thought - "what to do ?"  To walk to the school !  I started walking, I could see myfatherclimbing the steps of my house.  I walked through the road in front of U P S Kadayiruppu, Govt Hospital,, The Temple of Karikkode, Padapparambu,Pulinchode, Pancode, three or four busstops which I don't remember the names.  At last I reached Pazhamthottam, then to School..  I ran to the classroom, breathing hardly.  The Teachers were embarrassed .  Some of them said, " she is from Kadayiruppu"another group said,"the bus at 11.15.a.m. was not running today". The Teachers gave me additional additional sheets whenever I wanted.  Though tired, I could write athe answersbut I think I couldn't  am mm complete the last question,  I still remember those wordsresounded in my mind, "don't be tired, fight upto fight upto the last moment"
When the results were published, Sunil became 1st in the class and I was 2nd.
At the sametime, the U P S Kadayiruppu was already upgraded as a High School.  I don't remember how I departed from Pazhamthottam school.  But the school and it's compound are engraved in my mind forever.  I don't remember the persons who actively participated  to build  a new classroom and other facilities.  When  I was rejoined in Government High School.Kadayiruppu, all of us were in a wondrous stage.  I searched for Ruby.  But she didn't return to the school .  We were all seated in a classroom just near the staffroom of the Teacher's.  Many Teachers were yet to come and take charge of their duty.  Then another thing happened.  My normal routine changed.  I didn't get up at 05.00 a.m.  There were two reasons.  Firstly, the lack of Teachers  affected me.  Secondly, I was afraid to  open the back door and wash my face.  "Why should I get up early?", I thought myself.
