As I studied in two schools in VIIIth Std, my memory is also divided. The new school had to develop in many ways. Therefore, money was collected from each & every house. During these days, I got enough time to think. Why do I experience such a special situation? My classmates commended,"Oh ! Diya! She is always studying. She doesn't do any work in her house". The women labourers in my neighbouring houses conspired like this, "Oh! The fate of Mathai & Annamma! they can't rest even a second. How can they take rest ? Their daughter is always studying. ". I could hear the sound of the whole people in Kadayiruppu shaking behind me.
When Joseph was brought to Egypt, Potipher, an officer of Pharaoh, the captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites. The LORD was with Joseph and Potipher made him overseer of his house. Joseph was handsome in form and appearance. And after a time, his master's wife set cast her eyes on Joseph and said to him to lie with her. But Joseph didn't hear her words. One day, when there was no one in the house, she caught him by his garment and said to lie with her. But he left his garment in her hands and ran out of the house. Then she told the men of the household that Joseph came to lie with her but when she cried out, he left his garment with him and went out of the house.
One day, Joseph saw his brothers who came to buy grain, and who bowed themselves before him with their faces on the ground. Joseph recognised them but he didn't reveal it for sometime. Finally, when he revealed the truth, he said,"And now do not be distressed or angry with yourself because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life." Joseph's father Jacob and all his brothers came to Egypt and lived there (Genesis 37: 3 - 46 :7 )
How many times I have heard the story of Joseph! In Sunday School, I have studied the different aspects of Joseph's story. When the priest told the story, I was thinking that whether I could face such kind of troubles in my ife. Forgiveness - that is necessary for a Christian life. I sat there, thinking about it without understanding its meaning.

One Sunday, the priest explained why God allows some hardships in our lives. Joseph was an example. Isaac's son Jacob had twelve sons viz. Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Issachar, Zebulun, Joseph & Benjamin. Israel ( Jacob ) loved Joseph more than any other of his sons and he made him a robe of many colours. This caused hatred in the mind of his brothers. Then there was another dream and his brothers became more jealous of him.
His brothers went to pasture the flock near Shekhem. Then Israel ( Jacob ) asked Joseph to go there and enquire about their wellbeing. When they saw him afar, they conspired against him to kill him. But Reuben didn't allow iand suggested to throw him into a pit there in the wilderness, where there was no water. When Joseph came, they stripped him of his robe and threw him into the pit. Then they saw a caravan of Ishmaelites with their camels bearing gum, balm, and myrr, on their way to Egypt. Then Judah said to his brothers that they could sell him to the Ishmaelites. Accordingly, they drew Joseph from the pit and sold him for twenty shekels of silver.
Hearing the news, Potipher became very angry. Joseph was put into the prison. Oneday, the chief cupbearer of the King of Egypt and the chief baker, committed an offence against the King. Both of them were put in prison. One night, both of them had dreams. Joseph interpreted them the meaning of their dreams. His interpretation came true. The chief cupbearer was released and the chief baker was hanged.
Later, King Pharaoh had a dream. He sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt and all its wise men . But there was no one to interpret the dream. Then the chief cupbearer told the King that when he & the chief baker were in prison, there was a Hebrew boy viz. Joseph, who could interpret the dreams of both of them. Pharaoh sent and called Joseph from prison. The King explained his dream to Joseph. He interpreted it like this. There will come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt, but after that, there will arise seven years of famine, and all the plenty will be forgotten. Therefore, let Pharaoh select a wise man and set him over the land of Egypt. Let Pharaoh proceed to appoint overseers over the land and take one - fifth of the produce of the land of Egypt. Hearing this, Pharaoh, set him over all the land of Egypt. During the seven plentiful days, Joseph gathered up all the food and stored up all grain. When the seven years of famine spread over the land, Joseph opened all the storehouses and sold to the Egyptians.
