When the Final examination was approaching, I had been trying my best to learn my lessons. But, I couldn't. What was the problem ? Yes. The lack of support of my family. Then, surely, the one year gap. One advantage was there due to my hostel life. I could speak to all my classmates without any hesitation. I didn't spend my time for studying languages, that means English & Hindi. I thought that the extra time could also be spent to learn other subjects. But alas ! The time had gone without my permission.
The study leave days were gone and the Final examinations started soon. Then I committed a mistake which I had never done in my High School days. I think it was the the night before the Physics examination. I didn't sleep till 12.00 o'clock or 01.00 a.m. The next day, when I got the question paper, I wondered. All the questions were familiar to me. But the answers - I tried and tried helplessly but didn't get most of the answers. I understood what happened. It was because of my light sleep. Then, the next step - I can't even think about it. I stretched my hand towards the girl who was sitting at the other end of the bench and begged her to show me the answer of a question. She didn't do so. Instead, she looked at me with contempt. She was aware of the fact that I had got distinction in Xth Std. After that attempt, I became normal and realised the depth and consequences of my action. I thought that how guilty was I and prayed to God to forgive my sin.
After the examinations, I doubted whether I would pass the exam or not. Our Theory Tests were completed and the Practical sessions remained. Then, the Final Year Degree students vacated the hostel, completing all their examinations. It was like a film show - it is engraved in my mind. My room mate Merlin's parents and brother came with their car. At the time of departure, Merlin and her classmate, Thresia, cried together. Merlin's mother commented, "what is this ? Are you crying for vacating the hostel ! " Ramla's parents also came with a car and all the luggages were placed in it. Like them, all the Final Graduate students vacated hostel. I wondered to see their parents coming with a car and going to their houses. "How rich they would be ! ", I exclaimed.
One thing I forgot to mention - towards the end of Degree classes, one of Merlin's Professor asked her to come to the staff room. When she came there, He presented her a copy of Holy Bible and announced that during the previous three years, She was the person who guided Thresia to the college and made her sit in the first bench. He was watching this during those three years and He felt that She should be awarded for her service. When Ms Merlin explained all these incidents, all of us laughed because we knew that each blind student was going to college, with their classmates. It was considered as the duty of their classmates.
