In our School Assembly, the prayer song was sung by Deepika and Jessy.  When Jolly came to our school, she expressed her talent through some single performances  and became a member of the prayer song group.  During that year, our Hindi Teacher, George Sir had a desire to participate a team of group  song in the sub district level.  In the group, seven members were allowed.  Therefore, I, Deepika, Jessy, Jolly, Nitha, Reena & Reeba were selected as members of the group.
For practising the song, our Teacher had asked us to come to Deepika's house.  Deepika had an elder sister & a younger sister.  She was one year younger to me.  Her parents were Government employees.  Her father had five younger brothers and therefore, a large house was built to reside everyone, there.  I remember all of us sitting on the mat on the floor, facing the Teacher.  Two songs were taught, one a patriotic song & the other was related to the Festival of Onam, I think. When we went to the school where the competitions were taking place,  it was a new experience. I think George Sir & Leelamma Teacher  accompanied us to the school.  As usual, the competitions ended very late.  Now I remember that one person - Alan -  was also there to  compete in "Speech in Malayalam".  As it was dark, we returned  in a jeep.     When the jeep came near our house, George Sir asked the driver to stop near our steps and called out, "Mathai, Mathai,"and my parents came outside.  I came out of the jeep, climbed the steps and went inside the house.
My mother started to explain the incidents that happened during that day.  In the evening, all of our fathers came to Kadayiruppu junction.  When it was dark, all of them returned to their houses saying that it was a risk to send the girls for such activities.  The next day  I knew that the other girls went to Leelamma Teacher's house and in the morning, after having tea, they returned to their houses.  I want to add one thing also that we didn't get any prize for that performance.
In the examinations, I & Nitha were performing well.  Next to us was Eldhose.  In the meantime, the tour programme was announced.  It was to Thiruvananthapuram - Kanyakumari.  This made us very happy.  My memories are only this.  We watched sunrise, we were in queue with the tickets in Tamil in our hands to go to the "Vivekanandappara".  It was a wonderful experience.  The three seas met together - The Bay of Bengal, The Arabian Sea and The Indian Ocean.  The Teacher told us to see  & experience it with full heart because it was not sure that we would come there again.  We visited the capital of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram.  When the bus went close through the Legislature Secretariat, the Teachers asked us to look at it and I got a glimpse of it. I remember one evening,  we were in the planetarium.  When it was dark, we were in the terrace of the building.  At the sky, there were many stars, but I could easily locate Jupiter.  In the telescope, we could see Jupiter a little closer than before.  I was anxiously waiting for that moment.   Then our Teacher told us to look at another group where a great athlete of India, Shyni Abraham was standing.  Our Teacher told her,"tell us something".  She said,"what can I say"?  He said,"this is enough,".  I looked through the telescope and saw a little closer.   We went to many galleries and zoo.
From Kanyakumari, my friends bought many curious things.  I selected a doll for my sister.  Why did I select it?  Not because of full love but don't know how to express my feelings at those moments.
